Since 1993, VCPEA has been a leader in promoting awareness, training, and advocacy on behalf of Virginia's abused, neglected, or exploited adults. VCPEA seeks to:

• Promote a greater public understanding and awareness of the problems of elder abuse.
• Promote improvement of the quality and the availability of services to vulnerable adults.
• Encourage the development of services and programs to protect elders and adults with disabilities who are abused, neglected or exploited, or at risk of abuse neglect or exploitation.
• Advocate with the public and government leaders on behalf of elderly and disabled adults.

Your membership in VCPEA makes you an active participant in the effort to ensure the rights and safety of vulnerable adults. Your membership supports a variety of initiatives including:

• Annual Conference - The only statewide conference that focuses on adult abuse issues. Members are eligible for reduced registration fees. The 2010 conference is scheduled for June 2-4, 2010. • Forums and Emailings - Educational forums during the year provide additional opportunities for professional training. Members receive notice of these meetings as well as emails containing information about abuse and neglect issues in Virginia and around the nation.
• Public Awareness - VCPEA collaborates with the Virginia Department of Social Services and other agencies to develop education materials about adult abuse, neglect or exploitation. • Legislative Advocacy - VCPEA works with professionals and advocates around the state to strengthen protections for elderly and disabled adults. VCPEA worked to revise Adult Protective Services (APS) laws during the 2004 Virginia General Assembly session. VCPEA is working to encourage support of S 1070, the Elder Justice Act.
