Affordable Care Act, Certified Application Counselors (CAC)

JABA has certified application counselors (CACs) who help people with the federal health insurance marketplaces. Counselors guide people through their health coverage options, apply for financial help with coverage, and enroll in private health plans through the federal exchange.

JABA serves anyone who is eligible for the marketplace:

• Must live in the United States;
• Must be a United States citizen or national; 
• Must not be incarcerated.

JABA offers this free counseling during the "Annual Open Enrollment Periods" and throughout the year during "Special Enrollment Periods" for individuals and families. This period varies from year to year but currently is November 1st thru January 15th. To have insurance starting on January 1st, people must sign up by December 15th.

Counseling sessions are offered by appointment at JABA's central office in Charlottesville, by telephone, or by Zoom online meeting.
