New Year - New Resolutions!
With a new year upon us, many of us take a fresh look at the way we work, play and live our lives. Some of the top resolutions are to lose weight, get physically fit or quit smoking.
While these are all worthwhile resolutions, add one more to your list: Estate Planning.
Estate Planning is a lifelong process that will benefit you and your family regardless of your age or income level. Because of inevitable changes in your life situation and tax laws, various documents need to be reviewed on a regular basis.
Documents should also be reviewed to ensure they are consistent-what is stated in a will must match what is designated on retirement plans and life insurance policies. An estate planning or elder law attorney can help iron out these issues.
There are many mistakes to avoid-but becoming educated and getting your affairs in order is a crucial first step. Do you have written plans that clearly state your wishes if your health is suddenly jeopardized? Do you have a will and Power of Attorney?
Gaining a better understanding of estate planning and seeking professional help can ensure that any anxiety you have turns into a greater sense of security. There is no better time to plan. Happy New Year!
