Crime Prevention for Seniors and Adults with Disabilities

October is Crime Prevention Month. All of us are at risk of crime in our everyday lives, but there are certain things we can do to try to reduce our risk of a violent crime, a burglary or a fraud or scam happening to us. The best way to combat elder fraud and exploitation is through education of Virginia's seniors, family members and caregivers.

Seniors and individuals with disabilities can be especially susceptible to crime for several reasons. They may have impairments that make them more vulnerable to victimization. There are also new ways that crime is occurring-via the internet or new fraud techniques that individuals and communities may be unfamiliar with.

The Triad partnership is doing its part across the Commonwealth to insure that there is increased fraud detection and reporting by seniors. Read more about Triad's efforts and how to become involved.

Be informed and be safe…knowledge is power!

A special thank you to our Partners — whose commitment to community and technology allows us to reach all Virginians, with and without internet access, and offer new tools on SeniorNavigator.
